AT ETERNITY’S GATE – Official Trailer – HD (Willem Dafoe, Rupert Friend, Mads Mikkelsen)

Trailers

Julian Schnabel’s At Eternity’s Gate is a journey inside the world and mind of a person who, despite skepticism, ridicule and illness, created some of the world’s most beloved and stunning works of art. This is not a forensic biography, but rather scenes based on Vincent van Gogh’s (Academy Award® Nominee Willem Dafoe) letters, common agreement about events in his life that present as facts, hearsay, and moments that are just plain invented.

  1. Willem Dafoe is great. The movie though is pretentious crap. Just the score.. OMG! A bad copy of the score to "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" (which was great).
And they've taken too much freedom when it comes to the facts. He wasn't murdered and he died at the age of 37 (Dafoe is 63), just to mention the 2 biggest jokes of many. They invented too much for no good reason. It doesen't make the movie better in any way.

  3. “What am I in the eyes of most people — a nonentity, an eccentric, or an unpleasant person — somebody who has no position in society and will never have; in short, the lowest of the low. All right, then — even if that were absolutely true, then I should one day like to show by my work what such an eccentric, such a nobody, has in his heart. That is my ambition, based less on resentment than on love in spite of everything, based more on a feeling of serenity than on passion. Though I am often in the depths of misery, there is still calmness, pure harmony and music inside me. I see paintings or drawings in the poorest cottages, in the dirtiest corners. And my mind is driven towards these things with an irresistible momentum.”

    Vincent Van Gogh
