AirPods to Replace HeadPhone Jack in IPhone 7
“AirPods” – Apple’s newest wireless earbuds which are going to be launched on 7th September along with iPhone 7, are said to have a custom-designed chip that will use a Bluetooth-like technology. It is believed that they are going to re-shape the headphone market, paving the way for new smartphone accessories.
What are AirPods?
Apple-branded “AirPods” are two-pronged attack on the high end, and a range of Beats-branded headphones for the middle of the market.
Ming-chi Kuo – KGI Securities Analyst – gave a lot of information about iPhone 7 over the weekend and now he’s back again with another yet important piece chunk on the eve of Apple’s big launching event. From all the rumors and leaks, it’s almost established that Apple has killed the headphone jack.
IPhone won’t ne featuring a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Kuo believes the new phone will be equipped with “EarPods” which use a lightning connector to work. There could be a sort of converter. However, he also said Apple is working on its own “Bluetooth-like” wireless technology that will be used for the new generation headphones.
“We believe Apple will position Beats in the midrange market once it launches Apple’s own-brand Bluetooth headphones, in order to maximize profit with a dual-brand strategy,”
Several websites – including MacRumors, 9to5Mac and AppleInsider – reported a note from Kuo which said that Apple is designing its own Bluetooth-like communication chip as there’s a rapid growth in Bluetooth heaphone market.
“We also believe Apple will have its own-designed Bluetooth-like communication chip, given its higher requirements for power-saving, communication specs, and potential rapid growth of Bluetooth headphone shipments.“
Apple already has a name for their new headphones. If the trademark filings are true, the new wireless headphones may be called AirPods.
Kuo also said that Apple is not going to limit these chips to just smart phones. They plan to apply these wireless chips to smart homes and smart cars as well.
Apple is going to kick off one of the most awaited events of 2016, the launching of iPhone 7 at San Francisco, tomorrow, September 7th at 1PM ET.
