Zymal Umar – Nine Years Old and Pakistan’s Youngest Social Entrepreneur
Zee Bags is an inspiring social project founded by 9 year old Pakistani girl, Zymal Umar. The project is aimed to help the underprivileged children of the society and cleaning the environment at the same time.
While talking to a local Pakistani newspaper, she told her story. According to her, it all started when she went on shopping with her parents 3 years ago. A very awful sight of plastic bags lying on the streets distracted her and she was taken over by the feelings of disappointment. She said, we were taught about environmental pollution at school and I was aware of the fact how damaging it was for the environment.
All of a sudden, her attention was caught by a shopkeeper handing out things to the people on a piece of newspaper. This very sight planted the idea of Zee Bags in her head.
So, in order to clean the streets from plastic bags of her beautiful city Sargodha, she started making bags from newspaper.
Zymal has managed to sell hundreds of bags till now. And she used her profits buy and donate essential items for children belonging to SOS village and other underprivileged of the society. She also make contributions to other charitable foundations.
Zymal says she enjoys her work very much and it’s very fulfilling. She puts a lot of effort in every piece. Sometimes, she decorates them with colorful stones and flowers.
Her parents are also proud of her work. Zymal says, her parents are very supporting and if it wasn’t for them, it would not have been possible for her to turn her ideas into reality.
Zymal Umar is studying at a private school in a city of Pakistan – Sargodha. She successfully manages a perfect balance between her goals of saving the environment and her studies. Talking about the future plans she said that she would like to inspire others and take her project to a global level.
In an effort to recognize her efforts. Zymal received a goal medal from the Federal Secretary of Education in Pakistan. She was also awarded TIE – youngest entrepreneurship award. She was also invited by the Saudi Arabian government where she was presented with the Prince Abdul Aziz Award for Children Pioneer – Ecopreneur.
Talking about expanding her Zee Bags, she said, they are planning to launch a website and get an app developed to reach a wider audience.
